ALL THE HEELS I LIKE ARE OUT OF MY PRICE RANGE... WAAAAAA

Last weekend I mentioned I was ankle deep in a seach for some winter appropriate high heels. The critea was that they had to be closed toe [That means no peep toe booties, while they are adorable they are totally impractical], a pump or ankle bootie [they flatter my ankles], leather, and below 200 bucks. I actually did, randomly, find two pairs of booties from Torrid and Newport News [I told you random], but the shoes I loved were sooo out of my league. I'm coping with my misfortune by doing a post about 'em.

FALL 09 TERMINATORS

One of my favorite sneaker styles, The Nike Terminator, is featured in two new packs this Fall.

Matagi Terminator High Supreme
Matagi is a Japenes term referring to northern, large prey hunting tribes from the muntainous northern region of Japan.  The outside features animal hair and reinforced fabric.  The inside is linned with fur.
Now here comes the sad part: The Matagi Pack is only being released in Japan, but Japanese online retailer, Atmos, will be selling them.

Native A Terminators
One of the more ridgid Terminator styles [some come extra cushiony, but not this one] with a mostly suede upper and leather tongue. It is also offered in purple on black . Pops of color, on both color ways, come from the same Native American pattern at the back and the woolly rope laces.

"THOSE ARE HER MINIONS"

Budden describes the situation as "the 3 of us decided to have an in depth conversation about nothing.. i mean twitter..."

I have tried to get it poppin on twitter, but for real I can barely walk and talk on the phone, let alone type when I am actually doing cool stuff. I actually dropped my phone in a glass while texting at a party.

STELLLLAAA!

My edgy, rockstar daughter, Brit designer extraordinaries is getting more serious and I'm not sure I like it : (. Stella McCartney's Fall 2009 collection was chock full off of proper coats, lady like office looks, and ultra fem lacey gowns, barely giving me anything to drool over. I was into a few of her blouses and those badass preferated leather leggings... well, those can't go unmentioned...

BLOUSES

I wonder what the shirt hems look like... You probably couldn't pull them off with kicks, but maybe work boots or equestrian type boots. Love the lace raglan joint.

LEATHER LEGGINGS

ummmm....
LACE

While these dresses are not exactly my cup of tea, Stella McCartney's use of lace was inspiring.

EMINEMXMOSDEFXBLACKTHOUGHT FOR BETDACYPHER

SAFE TO SAY EM KILLS IT AT THE END. DID I MENTION HE IS WAY CUTER WITH THE DARK HAIR?

HOW YOU LIVING

I was gonna start this post saying that I became interested in interior design decorating when I went on my first dorm room shopping spree. You know that first summer you prepare to leave the nest and you are in complete control of each element that will enter your new space [I went for a Polo Bear/ chambray vibe]. Then I realized I have been hooking up my living space since I was like.... 9. I could never really shop for new sheets or furniture, but I would rearrange my furniture, like, once a year.  I also would tear out the page posters from mags like Word Up?. When I grew out of Immature [the boy group of the time], I moved on to posting pages from Vibe magazine [back when they were like 10"x12"]. Then I added personal snap shots to the mix.  I seriously had hundreds of magazine pages and photos paneled along my walls. Those stayed up until I moved out my parents house and my mom [forcibly] took em all down. I knew I couldn't pull off the same design aesthetic in an actual apartment, so I got into collecting edgy art and quirky home goods. Luckily my boyfriends is into the same quirky hip hop shit I am and usually likes the weird stuff I bring home : )

So what's my point eh?
Apparently this dude at The Shelby gets his rocks off photographing cool people and their even cooler homes! Homegirl Tabatha [at mobliving.com ] put me on to my favorites: DJ Marr & Mayu Kondo's crib and Baby Mary's home/ store space, both in Japan.

THAT WHITE GUY WITH ALL THE RAPPERS

Have you ever questioned who that well suited tall Caucasian [actually Israeli] gentleman with all the rappers was?

Well wonder no more, it's Lyor Cohen O.G. Def Jam A&R and  current North American Chairman and CEO of recorded Music for Warner Music Group [And Tory Burch's Boyfriend!].

I first read about him at the top of the month in the Sept/Oct Issue of the Source and, after skimming a few additional articles written about Lyor, his life mantra seems to be "I am happy" and "I have never worked a day in my whole life".  Now either he has some good meds or he's on to something.  Both could be true, but he definitely has some solid perspective to back up the latter scenario. Here are some of his life lessons he shared with Londell McMillan in this months The Source article titled Behind the Music.

"The Key is to find your calling and take the fundamental risk of being curious enough to not stop until you participate in that passion. Too many fall into the traditional pressures of family and friends and society."
"I never thought I was going to make a living doing what I was doing... So I look for someone who's in it [the music industry] because of the deep passion of doing good, someone who loves what they do and does it really well... the ability to challenge yourself both ways that makes one dangerous. So I look for someone who has the passion and curiosity to be able to cross over... What I mean is you're not stuck on stupid, or what people think you're supposed to do in this business. I like dreamers."
"In the '80s we were a fraternity of people that had a deep love affair for what we did and a great passion for what we did. How was it possible that we could be high, have no money, zero clout, no organizational skills and no experience and end up making such a living and building something?"
"We wanted everybody in the space [hip-hop] to do really well... What's changed now is the competition. People are in it for different reasons; they are into economic riches and fame and there's less of a fraternal order. There's no association of people wanting to see others do well in the space."
"... talent needs incubation. Talent needs to go on the road and understand why every time they played that record nobody cared, or why when they were in that groove everybody's eyes were wide open..."
"... The moment you have to manufacture a hit to survive, then you're in the wrong business... Typical contracts are three or five years for employees; a typical artist development period is five to seven years before it really bears fruit. That is something that I'm most proud of- the patience that our team has shown, a desire to do something great over the long term."
"I think the key core challenge is trying to realign the value of content versus the hardware industry- the digital aggregators realigning the value of the creative..."
"... in terms of my legacy, I would like my legacy to be one that stood for excellence in preserving the core value of finding exceptional artist, loving, nurturing and being a constant and reliable part of their lives."
"I don't tell people how to come everyday; I show them every day. I'm the first one in, the last one out."

I found Lyor's  patience and passion refreshing, especially for someone who has been in the same business for 25+ years. A lot of his points about nurturing product and not encouraging others in the same lane paralleled issues in the apparel industry.

I like dreamers too though and love is love love.

KID SISTER LINES

What's the next best thing to [and perhaps even better than] your favorite luxury brand? It's secondary line! This is the collection that is created from the same design point of view as the primary, luxury line, but is half the price and is usually styled towards a younger audience incorporating printed graphics, more wearable fabrics, and styled with sneakers.

Two of my favorite high end designers are Marc Jacobs and Chloe.  Each have amazing secondary collections that have cult followings like wow.
