They Don't Do It Like This No More

3Sixteen commissioned Richard Haines to illustrate their 2009 Fall/ Winter L.E.S. ad campaign.

In recent decades illustrations have taken a back set to high quality photos in fashion.  Nice to see people still appreciating the hand sketch.  Glamorous photos are fresh and exciting, but illustrations add a personal touch [each artist has their own sketching style] and can create a mood with the most minimal details and no air brushing!

The new 3Sixteen Fall/Winter Look Book is type sexy might I add....

A Little Better - Gnarls Barkley

Books at Anthropologie

The Anthropologie Store on 5th Ave. and 17th St. [NYC] has a cute assortment of fashion books towards the back of the first floor.  Book topics include vintage fashion and fashion photography with work from Annie Leibovitz, Richard Avedon, and Tim Walker.  There was also this wild bird book with sounds...

I realize most of these books could "easily" be found at a local Barnes & Noble, but is that really easy?  Those huge stores are crazy daunting and waste your flavor with a lack of "fashion ambiance".

Like I Give A Frock!

Found this slamming book at Anthropologie. It is the definition of texture with layers of sarcasm, fashion advice, random facts [that are questionably true] and collaged fashion illustrations [the best part of the book] on really nice paper.

How Much You Wanna Bet He'll Cheat Again?

A Virginian woman found out her husband cheated and made him wear this.

I'm pretty sure the scar of being emasculated in-front of the whole town will cause him to run to the comfort of another woman.

Getting Ready to Go Out

Hooray for the Power Couple

I love celebrity power couples! I don't know... Something about two gorgeous, motivated and successful people loving each other just turns me on.

Alicia and Swizzy's  pubic love is helping me get over the Nas and Kelis Divorce.

Old School

For some reason Billie Holiday has been on my mind lately.
She was a bad bitch.
A little depressing, but always well dressed.

She Dresses the Girls Who Style You Love

Celebrity stylist, Mariel Haenn works with some of the most followed ladies and gentlemen in music and Hollywood. Haenn is most recognized for the more mature, "glam rock" image she helped create for Rihanna, but almost every "look she designs" is gold. In 2006, Mariel attributed her success to her strong work ethic telling MTV, "I put everything into it. I know there are not a lot of other stylists that care as much as me, but it's me and my name on it. And when I'm making the call and people know it's me styling it, it has to be right every time."

We all know the amazing work she has done with Ri-Ri, so let's check out some of her other clients and projects...

Two at a Time

In recent Miami Beach photos, Amber Rose is macking two different shades of polish.  This nail trend is not new, but I like the way Amber does it.  Instead of having contrasting colors, she choosing two colors close in the color wheel with the same saturation and then only paints one finger on each hand in the 2nd color. Subtle but still adds uniqueness to the flat colors.

Allow me to make examples out of some new Fall 2009 colors from M.A.C., O.P.I. and L.A.

New Chris Rock Documentary

Chris Rock adds laughter to the very serious conversation of black women and their hair. African American Female cultural influencers Mya Angelo, Nia Long, Salt N' Pepper, Raven Simone, Megan Good, Karen Steffens, and Lauren London all sit down to talk about the extreme measures they take to have what is considered "good hair".  Even better Chris Rock talks to men about how they take care of their long locks (I have witnessed some crazy man hair care routines) and what it's like to be with women so concerned with their mane.

My favorite quotes from the movie so far:
"Creamy Crack"
"Weave sex is a little awkward...."
"So you can lay-a-way the weave?"
Anything Paul Mooney might say

Want a foundation on the controversy surrounding "Good Hair" before seeing  Chris Rock's movie?

Still Chill

Regular ass friendships are hard to keep up, so I know it's hard maintain a close bond in the music industry. Especially when you quit the group you started with your girls. That's why it's so refreshing to see that Kandi and Tiny of Xscape are still home girls. Kandi tells rollingout magazine, "We've had a lot of ups and downs but we always stayed tight. We even exchanged blows one time, and we were laughing at each other five minutes later." Now they are each starring in their own reality TV shows.  Kandi is the newest cast member to the Real Housewives of Atlanta on Bravo.  Tiny co-stars with Toya in the Tiny & Toya Show on BET.  Tiny actually asked Kandi to be on the show with her, But the network "didnt want" her. The next week Real Housewives asked Kandi to be a part of the show.

Now We Can Have Sexy Time!

My new favorite end of the summer piece. An old classic sexed up with the simplest detail. I would finish it off with a fitted blazer, acid washed skinny denim,  and strappy sandals. Sort of like this.

$150 at Kiki De Montparnasse, 79 Greene St. NYC

Clothesline

Not only is a crazy wrestling move, but also makes for a super cute tattoo.
