SPRING 2010 RUNWAY SHOE TREND: MORE IS MORE

FIVE INCHES OR MORE AND MULTI DIMENSIONAL DETAIL WERE THE PREREQUISTS FOR THIS SPRING'S  HIGH END "IT" SHOES.

PROENZA SCHOULER

I call these the Peep Toe Fish Wedges. Proenza Schouler  modernizes the wedge shape with an inverted,  wavy heel, glossy black enamel and bungie cords.

The Mini Bucket Clutch doesn't "match" the shoes but they do share some of the same tones. Proenza Schouler has a way of putting elements together that don't coordinate, but some how work together.

VERSACE

Versace spring shoes mostly shared a Y-shaped upper and all had mirrored wooden platforms. The fun was in color, pattern and texture. The brand mixed and matched sweet pastels, bourgeois patterns, and snake skins to create completely different looks within similar shoe models. Then they injected indigenous techniques, like weaving, to add even more demesion [to the multi colored, two textured platform heels].  While there is a black and white, mary jane style that features the weaved technique I'm referring to, my favorite example of it is the above basket weaved, bucket bag. It's shape, color, and texture adds an old world innocence to the sharply fit, modern collection and shoe shapes.

ALEXANDER McQUEEN

Alexander McQueen wowed his runway audience with not one, not two, but three distinctly, avant-garde shoe shapes. The infamous Lobster Claw Bootie, The Mechanical Bootie, and The Wax Sculpture Platform Sandal were each eye catching for their dramatic shape alone. After showing each model in "basic" colors, McQueen layered on crystals, metallic tones, and reptilian skins, evolving them into walking works of art. My favorite shoe collection of this season. Alex M jewelry was also innovative, introducing sleek thumb slots.
